Kisha

Doll by Phyllis Kiefer
from... Metairie, LA

Kisha is a 16" Soft Sculptured Black Baby Doll who is dressed as a Fairy Princess for Mardi Gras.

Her body is made of Windsor Comfort fabric and her arms and legs are movable. Since she is 9 months old she can sit on her own. Her face is soft sculptured with dimples and she has Brown Acrylic inset eyes with black eye lashes. Her lips are painted with pink acrylic paint and her cheeks are brushed with red blush. On her little tiny ears she is wearing Pink Crystal Studs.

She is wearing a onesie with a Multi-colored TuTu Skirt made of Tulle. For her feet she has on little Pink Ballet Slippers. Attached to her back are Pink & Gold Shiny Fairy Wings and on top of her head is a very beautiful Gold Tiara. Of course, since her theme is Mardi Gras she has around her neck many, many beads.

Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, and for New Orleans's Catholics, that means sacrifice, so Mardi Gras is the last bash before Lent. But this is New Orleans, and one day of partying is simply not enough. Technically the season of Mardi Gras, called Carnival, begins on January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany. Also, the practice of parades is normal for people in New Orleans and the throwing of leads and trinkets leading up to Ash Wednesday. That is why it is one of my favorite holidays next to Halloween. I decided to do Mardi Gras since it is so colorful.
