Polly Rose is my original design for the 2013 Baby Doll Challenge. The inspiration for this little one is based on a real life granddaughter named Polly Rose.. She is 15" long and constructed with doleskin fabric. Her arms are jointed while her legs are stationary. Her dress and panties are my own design. Her booties were made from the lower portion of purchased infant socks. My Polly Rose loves to suck her thumb and gaze in wonder at the world around her. She was fun to make and I hope you enjoy her wide-eyed wonder.

Susie Ann
Doll by Cynthia Atkins
from... Moyock, NC

I used the basic pattern to make the body but changed the eyes. The Susie Ann doll has brown hair and she has beautiful blue painted eyes'. This pattern did not include the pattern for the clothing so I made a dress and bloomers for her. The Material is 100% cotton which has a patch pattern on it, I added some red cotton on the bodice and on the end of the sleeves to enhance the outfit and the bloomers are also in red. I also used -ply Worsted Weight Yarn for the hair.

I started sewing over 30 years ago, I made allot of my daughters clothes and when I made my first doll I was hooked. Each doll has its own personality and yes each one has a name to match her personality. I put allot of Love and work in my dolls , I make the dolls to last years and I make each one as if it's the first and last one I will ever make which makes each one extremely special and with loving care. I was looking at dolls patterns when I saw the contest and decided to enter.

Doll originated from the Little Pals pattern.

Entry #A-5

Erica
Doll by Cynthia Atkins
from... Moyock, NC

Erica was originated from the pattern Dream Spinners Late addition. I used the basic pattern to make the body and added pellets in the body for weight. The Erica doll has wavy blonde hair made from 4-ply Worsted Weight Yarn; she has beautiful brown embroidered eyes'. This pattern did include directions for the cloths so I did make them from 100% cotton which has a sheen look to it that makes it very elegant. I also used the yarn for the end of the dress sleeves and on the waste and legs of the panty looms.

Doll Baby
Doll by Dallas Sills
from... Worcester, NY

"Doll Baby" is a 'healing doll' made for my sister in law, Shelly, and is based upon my late husband, James' baby photos. I used my husband's hair (he was vain of his long, beautiful hair and wanted me to have it for my doll making) and a pair of my husband's pajamas to make the boy's clothing. His name comes from what my husband called me and what my sister in law's father called her: "Doll Baby".

He has silk gauze over my own modeled paper clay mask attached to a weighted stuffed cloth head and body. He is a life-sized
newborn 19 inches long and weighs 6 lbs stuffed with alpaca and glass seed beads. His body is my own design and his cloth over clay face is done similar to the method Susie McMahon uses. He has a watercolor face, eyes and body, varnished for archival purposes, human hair felted on and wired hands which can be posed to grasp your finger. He can sit and has loosely jointed limbs so he has movement like a very young baby.

Momma's Boy
Prince of Cuddles
Doll by Deb Rucinski
from... Wisconsin Dells,WI

My momma cuddles me everyday
She says I am her little prince
I snuggle close as if to say…
"On your heart are my fingerprints."

When I designed this doll, I did so with the intention that it would mimic the characteristics of a real eight-teen month old toddler.
Momma's Boy will "ride" on your hip and tuck his head sweetly into the crook of your neck just like a real child does. This is possible because of the loose swiveling neck joint.
His body is multi-jointed of polyester cotton blend fabric, which gives perfect balance for posing unaided. Mohair wig, acrylic features and a cast-off baby outfit complets his charm as a true little prince.

Laura
Doll by Diane Rivera-Smith
from... Anniston, Al USA

I am a nurse, wife, seamtress, doll doctor and dollmaker. I love the older, simpler dolls. Dolls to play with. I have made a lot of dolls, starting with the 2 piece teddy bears I started making at age 6 or so.I also repair old dolls and dress them for friends. Love to restore a old friend to somebody, specially if done as a surprise.

This doll I have made is called Laura, because she was made using a pattern by Laura Wheeler. Laura is 21" tall and she wears size 6 months. She is wearing a dress that I found in a second hand store and shortened for her. The shoes where handmade for her by me. Laura is made out of a pink cotton blend, with yarn hair. Her face is hand embroidered, I think she turned out beautiful. What do you think?

Her eyes are embroidered. She has lovely sun kissed skin tone and soft honey blonde hair made from mohair. She has green eyes. She also has a sculpted bottom and belly button. Honey loves bath time as you can tell from her photo. She likes to splash the water out everywhere and she tries to eat the bubbles, so you really have to watch her. She thinks it is hilarious and laughs so hard when she gets someone soaked with her splashing. Honey's diaper is handmade with Velcro fasteners. Her sweet little outfit was once a real baby outfit, which has been up cycled by me to fit her just right.

Strawberry Baby
Doll by Jerrie Berentz
from... Rohnert Park, CA

Hi! Meet my Strawberry Baby. When my daughter was a little girl in the late 70's and early 80's she absolutely loved Strawberry Shortcake, her friends and their pets. She and her little neighbor friend spent hours playing together with all their Strawberry dolls. And she still has all of them safely stored away.

Recently I have begun creating original patterns of baby/toddler dolls. So it was an easy decision to make a baby Strawberry doll. She is 14" doll and is designed in a seated position. Her body is made from kona cloth and her face is embroidered. Her hair is made from Caron Simply soft yarn and I found the strawberry fabric online. The strawberry decoration is an original design and is made from felt and ribbon.
